The Finland Files - Week 3

So this week may be much the same of what I've written about in last weeks blog but keep reading. Our Tuesday started the week off amazingly...We were very fortunate to be invited to attend a concert in Bergudden, with our host's childhood friend, Tom Sonntag playing some incredible alternative "atmospheric" music, which you can check it out here.

The beach/rocky outcrop was honestly one of the most beautiful and relaxing places I've ever been too and I think we will both remember that afternoon for a long time. Madie spent some time earlier on in the day making fresh hummus and taziki, plus Justus, our american friend, made us iced white mochas which accompanied the meal perfectly.

The following day, whilst I worked in the cafe, Mads began re-painting the garage. In the afternoon I was called to action to come to Inga to pick up some more furniture for the cafe (a beautiful mint wooden dining table and four mint 90 year old chairs). We also restocked the cafe supplies which meant filling an entire shopping cart with milk, butter, cream and some veggies.

The next morning we were woken up to a surprise that Nina, our host, was going to be on the radio. Not that we could understand the interview but it basically covered all things organic farming and promoting the summer cafe. Mads continued painting and I helped him out by scraping off the old paint on the front doors,

In the afternoon, Nina's son played the accordion whilst his friend accompanied him with the guitar. I spent the afternoon, sitting at the cafe listening to the music whilst reading my book and sipping on some coffee. Meanwhile, Mads kept on painting...poor thing.

The next morning, we basically did the same thing...painting and working in the cafe. However, we were called into action to assist Nina and Morton in the afternoon, I assisted Nina with her hair and make-up and then Madie chauffeured them, in their amazing 2018 Volvo, to a Farm celebrating their 400th year in operation.

We had to wait up late in the night for Yaki (their son) who was returning from the Aland Islands and then for Nina and Morton to finish their celebrations. We spent a lot of the night working on some really exciting stuff for the blog...so stay tuned, Fast forward to 11:30, Mads and I went to pick them up, which made us both desperately miss Australia and being able to drive. When we arrived, we had a quick boogie in this amazing barn which was decorated spectacularly, then drove back home.

The following day, we were both shattered, but because the cafe had been super busy the previous day, we basically had to bake everything in the morning. Then because the weather was so so beautiful the cafe got smashed, and so again Madie and I spent the whole day in the kitchen running in and out to the cafe.

Madie was incredibly proud of his creation

The weather was so incredibly hot on this day, I really struggled with the heat and had a massive headache...which makes me incredibly concerned for Asia and then back to Australia. So to cure this, we headed down to the local watering hole and cooled down.

The beautiful swimming lake

Yesterday I got a masterclass with Yaki on how to make hand carved wooden butter knifes...which go for 5 Euros a pop in the cafe. We also headed up into the forest to go wild blueberry picking, to be able to put fresh berries on the meringue. In other news, Madison finally finished the painting!

For those of you that have been living underneath a rock, yesterday was the World Cup Final between Franch and Croatia. So the whole gang headed to the local Irish Bar and watched the game on the big screen. A to the excitement of Valentina, the french intern at the Farm, France smashed Croatia! So to celebrate we enjoyed some local pizza before the boys on the farm recreated the world cup final on the farm's football pitch.

Today we have a new workawayer joining us from France, who purposely changed her flight so that she could watch the World Cup game in Paris. We also will be spending a bit of time prepping for our trip to the Aland Islands which is where we will be for the majority of the following week. Plus I think we will FINALLY be ready to release our Destinations Page with some of our most recent places visited in England.

Anyway thank you for supporting us, its been amazing to have a platform to record all of these memories. Stay tuned for next weeks post, covering all things Aland Islands.

With Love, R xo
